Save Your Marriage & Stop Divorce With These Useful Tips

Many couples aren’t willing to save their marriages, which is part of the reason the divorce rate is so high. It can take a lot of hard work to save a marriage. You can’t expect a miracle overnight, but if you invest hard work and time into your marriage, you should be able to save it.

Your spouse must be willing to work just as hard, of course. The first step is for both of you to recognize your faults. Instead of pointing fingers at each other, you and your lover should admit to your own mistakes and flaws.

Once you have done that, here are some more steps you can take:

• Try to be more tolerant toward each other. If your lover says you're over-critical, try to change that. The changes should be mutual, of course. Try to avoid arguing over things that don't matter, like too much time in the bathroom, loud music, snoring, etc.

• If you cheated, ask what you can do to regain your lover's forgiveness. If your spouse cheated on you, be clear about what you want. Both of you should be open about what's required to earn forgiveness.

• If you suspect cheating, be absolutely certain before you confront your husband/wife with it. It is up to you about which means you use to catch your cheating partner. If you use methods which might seem unethical, such as hidden surveillance, your lover might become angry. Defend your position if you are caught snooping.

• Stay rational and logical about things, even if you are personally heartbroken by your significant other's cheating. If you find yourself losing your temper when you are around your husband/wife, try writing a letter instead of yelling.

• Find an expert. While friends and family can offer gems of advice here and there, they are not professionals. They will only tell you what they would do if they were in your situation, not necessarily what would be best for you. Try to see a marriage counselor with your partner.

• Try changing things around – instead of arguing around the house, go see a movie. How about a short, romantic vacation together? Or start all over and revisit the places you went to when you were falling in love. Think about why your lover fell in love with you in the first place, and bring out those qualities once again.

• Include your lover in the loop. This works well if you've been accused of neglecting  your husband/wife. As partners, you are supposed to make decisions together.

• When making decisions, it’s okay to argue, just as long as you do not take the argument too far. Explain your side without arguing or becoming condescending to your significant other. You are both adults, so act like it!

The key to a lasting marriage is openness and respect. You need to be open with your significant other and respect each other’s differences. Follow these strategies if you desire to stop a break up and be able to say I was able to stop my divorce!
