Goal Set, Now What?

Assuming you've read our other articles and are up to speed with setting achievable goals, what's next? So here we go, let's get ready, and get your goal achieved!!!

The answer is simple, be sure you don't miss it or discount it! Before any goal can be achieved, before any visible progress is even made - be aware that certain actions have been taken that have set the tone for your entire journey of goal achievement.

Keep in mind, no matter if the action is exciting or not, at the end of the day we aren't defined but what we say or how great our goals. We are defined by what action we take. Name 5 people who set goals to be in the Olympics but never made it. How about 10 people who said they wanted to be billionaires but never got there either? But you do know Mark Spitz, Michael Phelps, and Mary Lou Retton and you certainly know of Warren Buffett and Bill Gates.

Consider a goal to be the destination of a journey. If you were travel through the Panama Canal by boat there would be a lot to do to prepare. Finding a crew, obtaining supplies, food, & drink, packing,, deciding on a route to take, and checking weather forecasts are just a few of them to start. It might be a lot of work, and the journey hasn't even begun!

Imagine if you didn't do all of that preparation and didn't realize it until you were in the middle of your journey? Maybe you didn't have enough fuel, or supplies, and you were at sea before you realized something was amiss. You forgot someone or something of vital importance. Insufficient preparation would be the doom of your journey.

This may be obvious when it comes to taking a voyage yet it escapes so many when it comes to goal achievement. Once your goal is set, the first thing to do is take a look at where you are now, what you will need, and what knowledge you will need to complete your journey. It's ok if you don't know every detail - even a sailor can't foresee every possibility - but if you have the major, foreseeable things taken care of, these unforeseen circumstances won't be trip-enders.

In most cases in order for you to accomplish your goal, you'll require some insight. Insight can be found in conversations with mentors, books, classes or researching your business idea. You can use any of them to your benefit. At times it may feel like you're not making progress, but every step you take towards your goal, is a step in the right direction.

Setting the right goal is half the work of achievement. Intelligently directed action is the other half. They are two sides of the same coin. Intelligently directed action is what gets you places. Action is useless if it is not directed with an end in mind.

Take action today. Your success depends on getting the ball rolling quickly! Go for it!
