Navigating The Store For Big Savings
The top way to get the most nutritional worth for your grocery buck is by shopping the perimeters of the grocery store to begin with. Almost every supermarket is set up in roughly the same way and every store will do anything they can to get you to buy more and more.
A grocery store is set up so that the perishable things, which are also the healthiest things, are around the outside perimeter of the store. The fruits and vegetables, the dairy products and the meat department and deli are all around the edges of the store. The less processed and healthier foods are all set up there. These foods also tend to be the top value nutritionally. Most stores will also set up sale items at the end of the aisles.
In the middle of the store is where you will find the canned goods, boxed goods, and all of the extremely processed foods counting cookies, candies, potato chips, beverages and more. Regularly these tend to be closer to the produce side of the store.
Still in the middle but as a rule on the other side are the paper products, the cleaning things and the beauty supplies. Towards the front of the store on the same side is usually where you will find the pharmacy. If the store has a bank inside it is usually close to that.
Some stores will have their frozen section in the middle, while others will have it on the far side opposite the produce aisle. Occasionally there is a superstore that will have both a refrigerated section on the outside and the cold section in the center.
The best plan is to shop the perimeters for all the perishables first and then move on to the inside of the store. That way you will be confident that you are loading up on the healthiest items first. If you are trying to get the highest nutritional value for your grocery funds try to stay away from the center of the store as much as possible. The peak nutrition items are on the border. Most of the stuff in the middle is processed and boxed and not really the healthiest foods for your body.
If you seek out the ads and the coupons initially you can typically go right to the things that you want to buy and keep away from the impulse shopping that tends to upset your grocery budget.
If you check out most of the stores in your vicinity you will soon find out which ones have the lowest prices and which ones will accommodate you the best when you are using your coupons and rebates.
