Luxurious Outdoor Rugs
A rug can provide one of the quickest ways of adding design impact and comfort to an outdoor seating or dining area. While candles look lovely on a table, they don’t always provide the light that a fixture can and looking for the salt dish isn’t always fun. Not having four walls for structure, it can seem intimidating to decorate an outdoor space, and provide more dimensional structure to your space with an area rug.
Many traditional rug companies and makers have jumped into the outdoor market, and outdoor rugs are no longer unattractive and simply functional. The designs are now based on as many traditional patterns as on playful, fun motifs strictly for the outdoors. Florals, stripes and brightly colored Orientals are made to look almost good enough to use indoors. Faux sisal and sea grass rugs are excellent for most decors, and don’t forget kilim. Achieve a Bedouin or Moroccan look by layering groups of small rugs, and it can be just as attractive as one large one. Repeat a similar colors and designs in your outdoor area to appear as an extension of design from your living room or sun room. Going from indoors to outdoors will appear seamless and that can help give cohesion to your overall design. Many people want a type of continuance of their home while others opt to do a completely different and fun seasonal look for the outdoors. Any outdoor space is enhanced by an outdoor rug, and whatever you decide on will work.
Consider the elements and how much direct weather a rug will get when you are selecting one. It’s possible to use natural fibers like sisal or bamboo, and they will dry if they get wet, but cleaning can be a problem. The synthetic fibers like nylon and polypropylene are water and UV resistant, and that makes them much more durable. Other materials can mildew while they will not. You will want to be sure that your outdoor rug comes with rubber backing. The drying time will be far quicker. Virtually all the same sizes that you find in indoor rugs can be found in the outdoor ones. Even a 6’ x 9’ will work well as an accent in a large area so larger isn’t always necessary. When you shop for an outdoor rug, make sure to have the measurements with you for your space. An outdoor rug can add just the right thing to make an outdoor setting perfect.
