The specialities of a holiday to the Isle of Wight (Part 1)
The time of the year for school holidays is looming again (unbelievable), and the problem of finding something for us all to do as a family has once again surfaced.
I am taking time off work on this occasion, and definitely intend to pack up the suitcases and visit somewhere different. But the question is where to go. There are two main criteria for me to consider before making a decision on our destination:
- It has to be close enough not to put too much pressure on my old car, which is likely to object to anything further than two or three hours away from home;
It must give the impression that you have travelled further than you actually have in reality.
An open forum was established on the table for all to submit their idea, and provide us with a direction to follow. The obvious solutions where being masked by the silly suggestions like "let's find the best ice cream factory and camp outside". I don’t thinks so, as this holiday was supposed to be about all of us as a family, and not just to satisfy the younger members.
It came to me like flash of lightning out of nowhere. We would be going to the IOW, and we would be staying in one of the many bed & breakfast hotels on the island. I'd be quite happy camping on the Isle of Wight, but October is the month when the nights begin to get much colder and the attraction of a warm bed is too strong.
I would only have to drive to Portsmouth from Brighton, a mere hour journey, before hopping on to a ferry to the Isle of Wight. The information had come from my wife's nephew who had enjoyed the experience of Bestival only the month before and had raved about the experience to us all.
