Senior Living Guide: Brief Tutorial
If you're considering a nursing or assisted living facility for your loved one, its more important than ever to have a reliable senior living guide to help steer your decisions. The safety and comfort of your family member is of paramount importance, and unfortunately, those two key elements are too often taken for granted.
Consider these recent examples:
A 4 month pregnant woman was recently raped in an Indianapolis senior care facility at gunpoint. This unfortunate event took place in July 2009.
Recently (July 2009) a 70 year old man was beaten to death at his senior living facility - police arrested the man who did this, and it turned out that the man was also a resident at the same residence. The man accused was 43 years old.
An employee of a North Carolina nursing home was arrested for stealing medicines from the care home - these medicines were intended for the residents.
A Florida senior care facility was recently charged with videotaping its residents for over a year.
An Ohio assisted living resident recently died of hypothermia after she wandered away from the facility that was supposed to be watching over her.
Unfortunately these unfortunate circumstances do happen from time to time. Newspapers often seem to publish all sorts of stories on neglect and abuse taking place in assisted living facilities.
Often, the vetting of facilities by family members faced with difficult choices is done too casually to avoid the fate that these stories describe.
A good resource for a senior living guide to help you or your family members avoid these unfortunate accidents can be found at The Senior Living Guide Foundation. If you do a quick search in Google you will find their insightful and educational resources online.
