So you want the room you stay in the most to look like a place where a princess should be? This is a common dream among little girls, and at times those bigger girls out there too. You should remove all the furnishings from the room and paint the walls. Two colors that will work great to bring this fairy tale to life are purple or soft pink. You will have a great way to offset the addition later of some furniture that will have dark wood. Plus if you are hoping to add in a mural the lighter paint will fit better with this option. A mural that has a castle in it may be the perfect fit for the room of a princess.
Try to stay with colors like pink, teal and purple for your dcor that will be added to the room. These choices will add just the right amount of warmth into the decor too. Curtains are great with nice velvet in one of the colors stated above or something that will work to make the room look even more royal. Plus velvet is a nice way to keep the room at a nice temperature in any weather, saving on the cost of electric bills.
Area rugs look beautiful in almost any setting. They also provide sound insulation to your home. By using an area rug you muffle the sound that slips through the floor. This also works on walls. You can have pictures printed on area rugs to create tapestries. This looks amazing and adds a unique touch to the room. This design will add a truly medieval feel to the setting.
Another design aspect that will give the room a medieval feel to the room is dark wooden furniture. A four post bed is exquisite, however if this is not in your budget other options are available. Consider refinishing the furniture you currently are using to make them the correct color. If this is not possible a there are many good resources for obtaining the items you need.
One choice for obtaining these items may be to shop at resale shops or used furniture stores. You may not find the exact coloring you want, but you will be able to find furniture cheap enough that refinishing the items is feasible. Another possibility is Freecycle. Go on the internet and use a search engine to find out if there is a local Freecycle group in your area. These groups give away or trade various items for free. Again you probably will not find exactly what you are looking for but the price will make up for whatever changes you have to make.
Sometimes these changes are actually improvements. By making changes to furnishings you personalize them. When making changes add silver and gold decorations to give a royal air to your design. Another way to add these touches is by using silver and gold chains as curtain tie backs. Even small touches will add to the ambiance of the room.
The ambiance of the room is always important. You don't want to decorate too much this will only make the fairy tale effect feel cheap. Adding in too much will take away from the royal feeling and make the room look too over done.
