Most people think that they're stuck with only the ringtones that come with the iPhone. Or that they have to pay for new ringtones when they get bored of the old ones that keep playing on their phones every time it rings. But they will be surprised to know that they are not right, they can now just convert their favourite song or ringtone or track and then convert into a format that is compatible with the iPhone and everything within the iTunes setup itself. And the coolest thing is that it's all FREE!

After lots of exploring, you now probably know that the iPhone ringtones have the .M4R extension. Now all you need to do is change the name of the file extension from AAC to .M4R. Yup! That's it!

Once you are done renaming the file, your ringtone will appear in your iTunes under the ringtones section. Connect your iPhone to iTunes, sync it and it's done. You have a whole new set of ringtones that you can create yourself to personalize your iPhone.

This simple method doesn't involve any complicated steps and any person with the basic knowledge of how to work around with their iTunes can work on it and create some mind blowing ringtones too!

The method is compatible with both Windows as well as Mac PCs, and once the trick of changing the file names is mastered, you can effortlessly create and store all the ringtones you may possibly want!

If you want to delete the ringtones, then just go to the ringtones folder under the iTunes music directory and delete them from there.

GarageBand, a software application makes the work a lot easier for Mac users as they can use this to convert ringtones in a jiffy!
